Neesham went on to remove Plunkett and nearly had a wicket next ball if Trent Boult hadn't overstepped the boundary rope. Jimmy Neesham went on to dispatch Archer with the over's final ball.

England batted first in the super-over, with Stokes and Buttler scoring 15 runs whilst facing Boult. With the inexperienced Archer taking centre stage, he bowled a wide, 2, 2, 6 and a 1. With the final ball, Guptill required two runs to win the game for New Zealand. Whilst attempting to complete his second run, Buttler crashed the ball into the wickets, subsequently winning the match and trophy for England.
